Our vision is a world where every woman has the opportunity to fully realize her potential. To achieve this, Latvian Zonta clubs have established a scholarship that helps talented and dedicated young women study at Latvian universities. The scholarship has been awarded since 2008 and is open to high school, gymnasium, technical school and college graduates. The scholarship is awarded in cooperation with the Vītola Foundation.
Zonta International is an international non-governmental organization with over 100 years of experience in gender equality issues. Its mission is to make the world a better place for women and girls. Zonta International’s main goals are to promote women’s equality, eliminate violence against women, and improve access to education. The organization unites more than 26,000 members worldwide and is represented in 64 countries. Zonta International has general consultative status with the United Nations and is represented in the Conference of International NGOs of the Council of Europe.
In 1993, Zonta International began operations in Latvia. Currently, there are five Zonta clubs in Latvia, in Jelgava, Ogre, Riga, and Valmiera, uniting more than 60 members. Our vision is a world in which everyone recognizes women’s rights as human rights and in which every woman has the opportunity to realize her full potential. To achieve this, Zonta International provides financial support to a number of human rights and gender equality projects, most often in cooperation with various UN agencies. Zonta supports girls and women to take on leadership roles in business and society by awarding scholarships in fields where women are underrepresented. Latvian Zonta clubs have been collaborating with the Vītola Foundation since 2008.
